why you should do day after wedding portraits

February 14, 2023

Wedding portraits are a super important part of the wedding day, but have you ever thought about not doing your portraits at your wedding? Sounds crazy I know, but you don’t actually have to do them the day you get married! This is what “day after” sessions are for. You’ll get all dressed up in your wedding gear the next day (or anytime after really) to take your wedding portraits. While it may sound like extra work for you, there are benefits to doing them the day after!

  1. You get to spend more time with your friends and family — you don’t have to leave the wedding to go off and take photos. The wedding should be about spending time with your loved ones and celebrating your love, so wouldn’t it be amazing if you didn’t have to leave to go take photos and could spend as much time as possible with your guests?
  2. You don’t have a super strict time limit for your photos — the day of the wedding you’ll have your wedding timeline that must be followed and you can’t be late coming back from photos or you’ll risk missing dinner (which sounds awful, honestly). If you do your photos a different day, then you don’t have to stress about missing dinner, or having a wedding to go back to
  3. You can choose any location you want — If you do photos the day of, you’ll be forced to stick around the wedding venue and won’t be able to go far — but what if you’re getting married at a barn and want some beach-y wedding photos? If you do day after photos, this is not a problem!!  You can have one vibe for the wedding, and another for the portraits, giving you tons of options. You could even opt for two different locations for your day after photos!

If you don’t want to worry about posing for a bunch of photos the day of your wedding (and you’ll already have to do it for family and bridal party portraits) then day after photos may be for you!
