Cultus Lake Engagement Shoot | Chilliwack, BC

A Cultus Lake golden hour engagement shoot is the perfect setting for an engagement shoot in the Fraser Valley. Cultus Lake offers various beaches, mountain and forest scenery, lake views, and of course beautiful warm golden sunshine in the summer months.

Air Mattress on the Lake

The main idea behind this photoshoot was to take photos on an air mattress in the lake. The vision is something fun, playful, and romantic. Vanessa and Darren were so laid back and trusting throughout the process, they truly were the best couple for this shoot.

At the beginning of the shoot, we were able to get so many romantic, sun-kissed photos of them relaxing on the air mattress. However, the mattress began deflating at some point and this caused a bit of chaos. With water leaking onto the mattress and soaking them, it continually got harder to pose as they were just sinking into the mattress.

Although there was a ton of coordinating and shuffling around on the mattress, it made for an unforgettable experience and lots of laughs. The deflating air mattress, on top of the huge waves and constantly floating away from me (we had to grab hands at one point to keep them from drifting off).

We ended up ditching the mattress at one point and instead chose to do some shots on the beach and partially submerged in the water. It turns out, these are my favourite shots from the entire photoshoot! I had them up to their thighs in the lake, and then laying half in the water (which became a challenge with the large waves)

Being only about 15 minutes out of town, Cultus Lake is ideal for an engagement shoot because it’s so close, and you can even get in the water without to drive a long ways home after soaking wet.
