Working with Kiana and Connor is always a joy—and I knew they would kill this editorial couples shoot idea. Kiana, especially, has become such a familiar face in front of my camera—we’ve done more sessions together than with any other client! From solo portraits to couple shoots, this was our third session capturing Kiana and Connor together, and it was a special one: their five-year anniversary.
When Kiana reached out to plan this shoot, she asked if I had any creative ideas or photography “bucket list” concepts I wanted to try. I immediately suggested an editorial couples shoot downtown Vancouver, and she loved the idea. From there, we started collaborating on outfits and colour palettes. Kiana sent me plenty of options, and together, we narrowed it down to looks that perfectly matched the vision. By the time they showed up for the session, their outfits were flawless and perfectly on-theme.
This shoot was a little different from my usual style. While I often lean into fun, candid movement and silly moments, this session had a much more structured, editorial feel. I experimented with precise poses, giving clear direction for where to look, where to place hands, and how to engage with the space around them. It was an exciting creative challenge for all of us!
We kicked off the shoot at the Vancouver Public Library, a stunning location with dramatic architecture. I wanted to incorporate the building’s arches, staircases, and geometric lines for a bold, structured backdrop. Kiana and Connor nailed every pose, bringing the high-fashion energy I was hoping for.
Next, we headed to a popular portrait spot: a parking garage with an incredible rooftop view. The skyline made the perfect background for more striking poses. We played with the lighting and angles, letting the urban setting shape the mood of the photos.
For the third location, we ventured to a vibrant alley painted in purple and yellow tones. Coincidentally, Kiana brought a pair of purple pants that complemented the space perfectly. After a quick outfit change, we captured some playful shots that highlighted the bold colors and quirky vibe of the alley.
Finally, we wrapped up the session with a creative twist—motion blur shots in the subway. We headed into the station, waiting for the perfect moment as the subway train arrived. The result? Dreamy, dynamic images that brought the whole editorial theme full circle.
One of my favorite things about working with clients like Kiana and Connor is the ease and trust that comes from having worked together before. There’s already a level of comfort and connection, which helps us dive into the creative process right away. Instead of spending time getting to know each other, we can focus on trying new ideas and pushing boundaries.
This editorial couples shoot downtown Vancouver was the perfect mix of experimentation, creativity, and connection. Kiana and Connor brought so much energy to the shoot, and I loved capturing their love story in such a bold, stylish way. I can’t wait for the next time we get to create together!
