Brad and Kat’s modern wedding was one of those special events that leaves a lasting impression—not just because of the beautiful setting in Esquimalt, Victoria, BC, but because of the deep personal connection I have with Kat. I first met Kat back in 2019 when I was living in Victoria. She was my manager at a retail job, and we quickly became friends. Life happened, and we lost touch for a while, staying connected only through Instagram. Fast forward a few years: when Kat got engaged, we reconnected. I had the incredible opportunity to photograph both their engagement session and their wedding.
A Day to Remember at Cinderbloc in Esquimalt
The wedding day began at Cinderbloc Studio in Esquimalt, the modern and sleek venue where both the getting ready and the ceremony would take place. The space was decorated with thoughtful details, cute signs, and a cozy atmosphere that made everyone feel at home.
As the morning unfolded, the energy was buzzing. The boys and girls got ready in separate spaces, and I moved between the two, photographing all the fun, candid moments. Music was blasting, laughter filled the rooms, and there was a strong sense of excitement in the air. It felt like catching up with old friends, as many of the guests and wedding party members were people I’d met back when I first worked with Kat.
One of the sweetest moments of the morning was photographing Kat with Jasper, their beloved dog. Naturally, he had to make an appearance in the wedding photos! Once Kat was ready, her hair and makeup perfected, it was time for her to put on her dress and see Brad for their first look.
A Private First Look and Personal Vows
The first look was absolutely heartwarming. We set Brad up in a quiet spot, and when Kat walked in to greet him, the emotion between them was palpable. They opted to share their vows privately during this time, away from the crowd. It was such an intimate and heartfelt moment—one of those rare instances where it feels like the world disappears and only their love exists.
Afterwards, they joined their bridal party for some celebratory cheers, and Brad even got “iced” (a playful tradition involving a Smirnoff Ice chug). These lighthearted moments perfectly reflected their personalities and set the tone for the rest of the day.

After the ceremony, we headed out for bridal party portraits in a nearby park in Esquimalt. The backdrop of greenery and ocean views was breathtaking, and the lighting that afternoon couldn’t have been more perfect.
Brad and Kat are naturals in front of the camera—seriously, they could be professional models. We wandered around, capturing stunning portraits that truly showcased their love and the beauty of Victoria, BC.
A Delicious Feast and Heartfelt Speeches
When we returned to the venue, the focus shifted to connecting with guests. Brad and Kat spent some time mingling and soaking in all the love from their family and friends. One highlight of the evening was the homemade Thai food that Kat’s parents prepared from scratch for the wedding. It was absolutely delicious and such a personal touch that reflected their family’s love and effort.
The speeches that followed were equally touching. Kat’s tears during these heartfelt moments made it clear just how cherished the couple is by those around them.

The evening festivities were lively, with an open bar, plenty of dancing, and moments of quiet intimacy, like when Brad and Kat kicked everyone off the dance floor for a private dance. Their connection radiated through every moment of the evening.
