Planning a wedding that feels authentic and personal is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Amanda and Matt’s White Rock and Langley wedding perfectly embodied their love story, personality, and priorities. Their journey from nervousness about photos to an amazing wedding day was such a joy to capture, and I’m excited to share their story with you.
When Amanda and Matt first reached out, they were both nervous about being in front of the camera. Amanda mentioned Matt’s hesitation—he disliked taking photos and struggled to get that natural smile. During our consultation call, Matt still felt uneasy, but I focused on reassuring the couple. We immediately connected, and it was clear we were all on the same page. Shortly after, they booked me for their wedding, and we scheduled an engagement session at Vedder River in Chilliwack.
We used the walk to the photo location as an opportunity to chat and build rapport. Once the session began, Matt surprised everyone. He relaxed, laughed, and genuinely enjoyed himself. Their engagement photos turned out beautifully, and by the end, they both felt confident and excited for their wedding day.
The wedding day began at Matt’s parents’ house in White Rock. It was a calm morning with just Matt, one of his groomsmen, and his parents. A lighthearted moment came when we had to consult YouTube for pocket square folding instructions—proof that every detail matters, even the funny ones! After photographing Matt’s details and solo portraits on the balcony overlooking the ocean, I headed to Amanda’s getting-ready location.
Amanda’s morning was filled with great vibes, music, and a house full of love. Her bridesmaids, parents, and even her young daughter were there. While her daughter wasn’t thrilled about photos (leading to some funny and memorable moments), Amanda radiated joy. After getting ready, we made a quick stop at the iconic railroad tracks in White Rock for a few photos before heading to the ceremony.
Amanda and Matt’s ceremony took place under a beautiful willow tree on their Langley property, and it was filled with laughter and heartfelt moments. My favorite part? Right after their first kiss, they celebrated with a shot of their favorite drink. Amanda’s flask was tucked into her garter—a touch that perfectly captured their playful personalities.
After the ceremony, we transitioned to family portraits under the willow tree. Amanda and Matt then took a breather for their couple portraits, where we captured stunning, intimate shots. Their genuine connection shone through in every image.
The bridal party joined in for group photos, and then it was time to celebrate with their guests. One of Amanda and Matt’s top priorities was spending quality time with their family and friends, so they planned their day to allow for plenty of candid moments and relaxed socializing.
Amanda and Matt’s reception was all about enjoying good food, great company, and memorable moments. The Fishing Panda catered a delicious dinner that guests couldn’t stop raving about. Instead of a traditional cake cutting, they opted for a donut wall. In true Amanda and Matt style, they shared a “Lady and the Tramp” bite of a donut, adding humour and charm to their evening.
Their first dance was followed by a surprise dance between Matt and his mom, which brought happy tears to the room. The night ended with guests gathered around a fire pit and enjoying a late-night snack, once again catered by the Fishing Panda.
Amanda and Matt’s wedding was a perfect example of making your day your own. They skipped traditional elements that didn’t resonate with them and focused on what truly mattered: spending time with loved ones.
