Having an elopement in British Columbia is one of the easiest ways to get the best bang for your buck when getting married. If you’re wanting to have a super private, luxury style elopement while still staying within your budget, this blog post is for you.
I’ve put together 3 experiences that are all less than 6k that will make for an epic, memorable elopement in British Columbia. Let’s get real with it and dig into the numbers.
This ones for all my beach lovers out there. If you want to experience running barefoot down the beach in your gown, splashing in the water (because you can tell how amazing your day was based on how dirty it is), a Tofino elopement is one for you to consider.
Here’s what your Tofino elopement could look like:
Hop on the ferry early in the morning in Vancouver, and get to Tofino in the afternoon. Spend your first evening in the small town wandering around, grabbing a beer, and watching the sunset from your wildpod, where you have the most spectacular view.
You sleep in a bit the next day, and after breakfast head to the surf shop where you’re going to grab a couple wetsuits and surfboard to share. You spend a couple hours at the beach messing around in the waves and enjoying the sun.
In the early afternoon, you head back to your wildpod where you clean yourselves up, and start getting dolled up for your wedding. Near the end of this process, I arrive and begin taking photos. We have a first look on the seating area outside your wild pod, and then take off for the beach for your ceremony.
It’s a short and sweet ceremony, but we all cried at your vows. We spend a bit over an hour exploring the beach, running in the sand, and getting our feet wet. We’re lucky to have a golden hour, and get so many of those gorgeous sun flare shots.
We finish the evening by heading back to the wildpod where a catered dinner has been set up for you, and we eat dinner while reading letters written by your family and friends.
How can I save more money?
#1: Check the ferry schedule. BC Ferries often offers discounts for early morning ferries and late at night ferries. The cost can go as low as $50 for a one way reservation!
#2: Instead of renting an airbnb or indoor accommodations, choose to camp instead! There are so many campsites around Tofino you’ll have no issue finding one that suits you. My favourite spot to camp in Tofino is at Bella Pacifica Campground (just a short walk from Mckenzie Beach).
#3: Get married before or after at the courthouse so you don’t have to hire an officiant.
#4: Make your own meals to avoid eating out (but don’t forget to treat yourself on your elopement day. You only get married once!)

So maybe you’re not a summer person. And luckily for you, it’s more than possible to have a winter elopement in British Columbia. If you want magical snow photos, a Whistler elopement should be on your radar.
Here’s what your day will look like:
You wake up in your hotel in the middle of Whistler Village, and immediately head out to get Starbucks (duh) before you start getting ready. Your photographer shows up at the tail end of getting ready, and helps set the two of you for a first look in the village.
You then head out for an hour drive to Joffre Lakes, where you are going to have your ceremony. The ceremony takes 10 short minutes, and you spend 30 minutes taking portraits at the lake, and another 30 minutes eating a picnic in front of the view and exchanging gifts with each other.
After heading back to your airbnb, it’s time for your first snowshoeing adventure of the weekend. We head out on one of the least busy trails and trek through the snow, stopping along the way for a few photos but mostly spending time in and appreciating the nature.
Back at the hotel, we pull out your wedding cake and do a cake cutting (immediately followed by devouring our pieces of cake). Your photographer says goodbye, and you head out to spend the rest of your evening at the Scandinave Spa to unwind from the day.
So you still want stunning photos in nature, but not really the super adventurous, outdoorsy type? Don’t worry, I got you. You can easily have a city style elopement in British Columbia.
Picture this:
You wake up in your downtown hotel room, send your partner off to get breakfast, and begin dolling yourself up. It doesn’t take the two of you long to get ready, and you quickly head to Pitt Lake where you’re meeting your officiant and photographer for your ceremony.
The ceremony takes about 15 minutes because you chose to incorporate a hand fasting aspect and long personal vows. You spend around 45 minutes here, taking some portraits and reading letters written from your family and friends.
When it’s time, you head on over to SKY Hangar to get ready for the helicopter ride. You get safety briefed and it’s time to go. Flying through the mountains, you see views you can only dream of. You land next to a blue glacier lake where you rapid fire take some portraits, and then hop back into the helicopter.
The photographer departs, and the two of you head back into the city where you have dinner reservations at Parker Rooftop. You don’t hold back and treat yourself to an expensive (but so worth it) 3-course meal.
You finish the evening off by walking around downtown, enjoying the city lights, and grabbing some dessert at a local ice cream place.
